What you need to know about Posterous back links not showing up and why I dont care
If you are using Posterous to create a network of backlinks for your mico niche sites (then you are probably following this years The Challenge).
If you are wondering why allof your hard work seems to be going down the drain, as non of the links show up in Market Samurai (or Yahoo SiteExplorer), then read this article.
Before my new micro niche sites were “Google bounced”, they were getting traffic and even Adsense clicks (I have made my Challenge dollar this year).
- I now have 4 Challenge Micro Niche sites, all of which have followed The Challenge criteria, each has 4 keywords.
- I post on random days to all 4 sites via 4 separate Posterous networks randomizing which posts get the backlink.
- I have 20 ezine articles live now, for all of the keywords and some.
- I ping all of the Posterous posts and rss feeds each time I post to Posterous
- I also Socially bookmark the Ezine Articles and Posterous itself to about 20 Social Bookmarks
This all works fine. I am on Google page 1,2,6,7,66,76…. for various pages from the 4 sites and get some traffic from all over the place.
However, Market Samurai does not show ANY backlinks from ANY of the Posterous network of Web 2.0 sites EXCEPT identi.ca. It does show the Ezine Article backlinks and some forum posts.
The reason for this appears to be that Market Samurai is using Yahoo results AND Yahoo has not indexed ANY of the Posterous sites, nor the autopost sites linked to Posterous. Therefore, if Yahoo has not indexed the sites then the backlinks are not going to show up! I have tried to submit the Posterous sites to Yahoo manually via SiteExplorer (results of which may take months).
Google on the other hand HAS indexed all of the sites. There are plenty of pages with my backlinks in Google, in fact Google has hundreds from Posterous and the Autopost sites (Yahoo has none). If the pages are indexed then the links are there (although we cant confirm this).
The bottom appears to be that Google has recognized most of the back links and is PROBABLY applying them to my sites. Yahoo’s results are obviously irrelevant for Google ranking. However, Yahoo SEEMS to be not indexing the Posterous sites because of duplicate content.
Do I care that Yahoo has not indexed the sites? No
Will I care if Yahoo and Bing combined get some traction? Maybe.
Has anyone else experienced this with Yahoo and Market Samurai?

I’m so glad that I found this post because I have been really stressing too about why Yahoo explorer, etc is not showing any backlinks from my posterous network as well. I had even considered dropping posterous, but things are probably working “in the background” and I’ll just keep using posterous for now.

Hi Paul. Yeah, I have also noticed this. You can only see a small section of your Google backlinks in the webmaster tools. Market Samurai can’t access this info so it displays Yahoo Site Explorer. But Google backlinks would be around 10 times the amount of the Yahoo ones.
